Intro:
The federal Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) emphasizes local-level efforts and includes opportunities for new and expanded federal grant programs for years 2010-2014. Funding for certain programs is designated in the legislation, while others will be determined through the appropriations process. The law will require community-based solutions to emphasize evidence-based approaches, evaluation and testing of models, and planning for sustainable results and outcomes. In summary, there will be opportunities for improving health care at a local level for communities that are informed and prepared for emerging reform initiatives.
